Microblading & Permanent Makeup

What is Microblading?
Microblading (also known eyebrow embroidery) is a form of semi-permanent makeup. Pigment is inserted into the upper layer of the dermis using a sterile handheld manual tool. Unlike traditional tattooed eyebrows, microblading creates a more natural effect with strokes that resemble brow hairs.

What is Microshading?

Microshading uses a stippling method as opposed to hair stroke pigmentation in Microblading. It creates a denser, thicker brow, using dots of pigment instead of strokes, and the results resemble perfectly-applied eyebrow powder which looks like make up. This technique is great for clients with oily skin, clients who want to cover up an old brow tattoo or clients who need more coverage. We can combine Microblading and Microshading - known as Hybrid Brows (combination of the two) Click here to see the differences.

Microlading Procedure

Microblading procedure

Microblading, also known as Eyebrow Embroidery is a procedure categorized under permanent makeup, but unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less invasive and is considered semi-permanent. The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra fine needles and each 'hair' is gently etched into the skin, giving an incredibly natural and realistic look.

A microblade tool looks similar to a tiny exacto knife, but instead of there being one big blade, there is a series of micro needles. With each client a brand new, sterile microblade is used and disposed after. The microblade is dipped into a selected color of pigment and then used to make a fine cut, or microstroke, in the skin. This process results in the pigment being implanted into the skin, which is known as micropigmentation. With the proper technique, microbladed eyebrow results look beautiful and completely natural. We can dramatically correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrows and it is excellent for those wanting to enhance their brows or who have little to no eyebrows, thinning brows from age or over tweezed brows. Pigments used are chosen to match the natural or desired brow colour and your skin tone will also be taken into consideration.

here are two major differences that make microblading more natural looking compared to the results permanent cosmetics are known for. First, the type of pigment used for microblading has an iron oxide base. Iron oxide has been a popular ingredient in cosmetics like foundation, blush, lipstick, and eye shadow for decades. An iron oxide base allows the color to softly fade over time and ultimately vanish, unlike the inks used in permanent cosmetic tattoos. Second, the pigment used for microblading isn’t implanted into the skin as deeply compared to the depth used for permanent cosmetic procedures. The proper depth for the color to be implanted during the microblading procedure is the upper layer of the dermis. Eyebrows are sisters, not twins :)

Before & After Care

Is microblading safe for everyone?

This procedure is suitable for most people. However, if you have any of the following conditions, we will not be able to perform this procedure:

  • Pregnant and/or breastfeeding

  • Are taking accutane or have taken accutane within the past 6 months

  • Have gotten botox/fillers in the forehead or brow area within the past month

  • Are taking blood thinner medications

  • Undergoing chemotherapy (consult your doctor)

  • Skin irritations near the treated area or sun damage

  • Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)

  • Viral infections and/or diseases as it might affect your healing and increase risk of infection

  • Epilepsy

  • Prone to Keloids

  • Very oily skin (microblading will heal blurry or ashy, will not heal good in colour or fade fast)

  • Eczema, Keratosis, Dermatitis, Rosacea or Psoriasis especially on your face or around brow area.

  • Tending to have prolonged bleeding after getting a minor cut (being a "bleeder")

  • If you have an iron-deficiency or anemia. Your body will absorb the iron-oxides in the pigment and cause the strokes to disappear or fade very fast.

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?
There are a few things that are we suggest not to do leading up to either your initial or touch up procedure:

  • Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure

  • Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face

  • Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment

  • Do not work out the day of the procedure

  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinner)

  • Do not tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure

  • Arrive with no makeup for your appointment. A lot of wiping of pigment takes place and makeup can get ruined, so save yourself the hassle! Mascara and Eyeliner is fine :)

  • On your arrival a numbing cream will be applied, a consent form signed and we will begin.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor colour deposit:

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your procedure

  • Do not consume caffeine 5 hours before of your procedure

  • Do not take an aspirin/ibuprofen/advil for pain relief (blood thinner)

The following must be avoided during all 10 days post-microblading procedures:

  • Increased sweating especially in face

  • Practicing sports

  • Swimming

  • Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi

  • Sun tanning or salon tanning

  • UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading

  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid

  • Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment.

  • Do not put makeup on the brow area for a minimum of 10 days.

  • Avoid alcohol and aspirin/ibuprofen and any vitamins that may thin your blood for 36 hours.

Reasons why your Microblading may not last: (avoid brow area)

  • You are using face wash with Salicylic Acid or using an Acne Face wash

  • You are using products or creams that contains Hydrogen Peroxide, Glycolic Acid or Retin A

  • Your Face Creams are "skin/cell renewal, skin regeneraion" creams or serums

  • You have an Iron Deficiency

  • Certain Medications

  • You get regular facials, use skin peels or exfoliate a lot

  • You suntan regularly

We do not recommend Microblading Touch Ups more than twice a year as we don't want to create scarring and overwork skin.

Pat your brows regularly with a kleenex the first 3+ hours following your appointment to remove any lymphatic fluid. Wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area the first 12 hours after your procedure. Clean your brows with a fragrance free, gentle cleanser (baby soap) after 12 hours especially if the brows accidentally got make-up, dirt or dust on them as well as every morning and night for the next 10 days. Put a very thin layer of Vitamin A&D ointment on your brows (given to you after your appointment) twice a day every morning and night after washing them until the scabs are gone for at least 10 days post procedure. DO NOT PICK YOUR SCABS. Please do not put any make-up on your brows until the scabs are all gone. Remember we all have different skin types and we all heal differently. Following your appointment your brows might be a bit swollen. They will slightly shrink once healed and fade 30-50%.
